Liposuction - David Robinson MD

Liposuction

It’s common to have trouble slimming down even if you eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. Like many people, you may find that some stubborn pockets of fat seem resistant to your healthy lifestyle. In that case, factors beyond your control — such as age and genetics — may be to blame.

If you want an effective, time-tested way to remove excess fat from your body, liposuction is a great option.  Liposuction can compliment your fitness efforts and help you achieve the figure that you want. This procedure can safely remove fat from almost any area of your body that bothers you.

Dr. David Robinson is a board-certified plastic surgeon who can help you achieve your goals through liposuction. He will happily meet with you to discuss your body contouring options and provide personalized recommendations.

Benefits of Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed plastic surgery procedures. This popularity is mainly due to the fact that the surgery offers significant benefits such as:

As an added benefit, many patients feel more motivated than ever to stick to a healthy lifestyle after liposuction in order to maintain their results. This motivation is more than a cosmetic benefit. When you love your body and want to take care of it, your quality of life can improve dramatically.

What Areas Can Liposuction Treat?

Liposuction is used to remove unwanted fat from many different areas of the body. If you can pinch an area of excess fat, you can probably have liposuction there.

Treatment areas for liposuction include the:

Keep in mind that liposuction does not treat cellulite or loose skin. If you are concerned about these issues, talk to Dr. Robinson about your potential options. He may suggest combining your liposuction treatment with another procedure.

For example, many women choose to have a tummy tuck and liposuction to correct changes caused by pregnancy and childbirth. These procedures are often performed as part of a comprehensive surgical plan called a mommy makeover.

Liposuction Candidates

Many men and women who want to eliminate stubborn areas of fat are ideal candidates for liposuction. However, this procedure is not right for everyone. Dr. Robinson will thoroughly evaluate your candidacy during your professional in-office consultation.

You are likely a great liposuction candidate if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Are at or near your ideal weight
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Are a nonsmoker or are willing to quit before and after surgery
  • Have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure

Your Liposuction Procedure and Recovery

Liposuction is typically performed using general anesthesia. Intravenous sedation is also an option, depending on what Dr. Robinson thinks is best for you. The amount of time that your surgery will take depends on the areas that are being treated.

Dr. Robinson will begin your procedure by making small incisions in the treatment area. Then, he will likely follow the classic tumescent liposuction process. This means that he will inject a tumescent solution that will break up the fat in the treatment area while reducing bleeding and bruising.

After that, Dr. Robinson will insert a small hollow tube called a cannula through the incision. He will carefully and skillfully maneuver this tube to remove excess fat using suction. Thanks to his meticulous attention to detail, Dr. Robinson can create beautiful, natural-looking contours using this technique.

Liposuction Results

Liposuction removes fat cells permanently. Since these cells can’t come back, your liposuction results will be long-lasting as long as you maintain healthy habits.

If you gain weight, the remaining fat cells in the treatment area will expand. That’s why weight gain after liposuction can change your figure and negatively impact the way that your results look.
