Dermaplaning - David Robinson MD

Dermaplaning

From sun damage to cosmetics to the natural effects of aging, your skin goes through a lot over your lifetime. These factors can leave your skin dried out, patchy rough, spotted, and covered in fine lines and wrinkles. Dermaplaning is a highly effective exfoliating skin treatment that can restore the look of your skin without the need for surgery.

If your skin is beginning to feel dull or aged, a dermaplaning treatment can help to bring out the brighter, healthier glow underneath. Learn about all of the non-surgical skin care treatments at Indiana Plastic Surgery by calling 219.500.5766 today.

Ideal Dermaplaning Patients

Dermaplaning is becoming more and more popular among men and women who are looking to treat their skin to a quick yet effective rejuvenation. Not to be confused with a dermabrasion, dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive skin treatment that exfoliates the skin to provide you with real, natural results.

Our Indiana dermaplaning treatment is especially beneficial for patients who are struggling with common skin issues such as:

  • Dryness
  • Rough skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Light acne scarring
  • Fine lines or wrinkles

Dermaplaning is great for patients who want the benefits of a deep exfoliating treatment, but are not suited for alternatives such as chemical peels. This may also be the best option for women who are pregnant or nursing because there is no risk of any chemicals being absorbed into the blood stream.

When you come in for your consultation, Dr. Robinson or one of our licensed aestheticians will take a careful look at your skin to determine the best treatment plan. We may suggest other skin treatments if dermaplaning is not right for you.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

The process of dermaplaning is quite simple and fairly quick when performed by a trained professional. During your procedure, a scalpel is delicately feathered across the surface of your skin to remove the layer of vellus hairs—better known as peach fuzz. Dirt and oil can often build up in these follicles, so when these hairs are removed with dermaplaning, it will often result in healthier, clearer looking skin.

Dermaplaning also removes the outermost epidermal skin, which will allow other skin care products to penetrate deeper and work more effectively. Having this treatment prior to a laser treatment or chemical peel can often further enhance your results.

After your dermaplaning treatment, you will be able to return to your daily routine immediately. It is important to use sunscreen after your treatment to protect your skin as it will be especially sensitive to the sun for a few days. Some patients undergo regular dermaplaning treatments, about two weeks to a month apart, as part of an extremely effective skin care routine.
