Only a mother can truly understand the effect that pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing can have on the body. Whereas some women are lucky enough to have their bodies bounce back, most women struggle to regain their pre-baby figure. Diet and exercise are important—but many moms find themselves at a standstill. Women find that no amount of cardio will lift your breasts back into place just as no number of crunches can remove the excess, sagging skin from around your stomach. Even the most active of mothers can have a tough time losing their so-called ‘baby weight’. More and more, mothers are embracing cosmetic surgery as a means of rejuvenating their post-baby body.
At Indiana Plastic Surgery, women have increasingly come to our practice wanting a Mommy Makeover. A Mommy Makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures meant to restore a woman’s body to the shape she enjoyed before pregnancy. The breasts and midsection take the brunt of childbearing and thus, most commonly, a Mommy Makeover couples breast enhancement with body contouring.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause a woman’s breasts to significantly change. Dr. Robinson can address these changes through an augmentation, a lift (mastoplexy), or a reduction—many times, using a combination will yield the best results. What is right for you?
Breast Augmentation: Have your breasts lost significant volume or appear out of proportion with the rest of your body? Breast augmentation uses an implant, your surgeon will restore volume, shape, and size to your bosom.
Breast Lift: Are your breasts drooping? Do your nipples point downwards rather than straight ahead? Appropriately named, a breast lift ‘lifts’ breasts back to where they were before pregnancy—giving you perkier, more youthful breasts.
Breast Reduction: Whether your breasts have always been large or grew during pregnancy, large breasts can interfere with your life and ability to parent. During your breast reduction, your surgeon will remove excess breast tissue to give you a more balanced feminine bust line.
While amazingly resilient, skin has its limits. During pregnancy, the skin is often times stretched beyond its ability to naturally snap back. A Tummy Tuck (or, abdominoplasty) helps tighten skin and muscles that stretched during pregnancy. When excess fat is present, your surgeon may opt to do liposuction at the same time as your Tummy Tuck. A Tummy Tuck will leave your abdominal region tight, toned, and free of excess skin.
After their Mommy Makeover, many of our patients come back to us excited with their new found confidence. A rewarding surgery, Dr. Robinson understands and appreciates the confidence a woman has when she feels confident in herself.
