Improving Patient Comfort
Traditionally, tummy tucks have always required the use of surgical drains to remove fluid following a surgery, but this may not always be the case. Discover how surgeons are making this body contouring procedure more comfortable for patients.
In some cases, patients may now be able to have a tummy tuck performed with the additional benefit of liposuction and no need for a surgical drain. As reported by the British publication eNewsWire, this leads to patients that are mobile more quickly after their procedure.
Performing Abdominoplasty With No Surgical Drains
The no-drain tummy tuck procedure is done in a different manner than the traditional procedure. As much excess fat is removed as possible through liposuction, which is a minimally invasive procedure that produces almost no scarring. This use of liposuction allows for dramatic results while allowing for a shorter recovery time.
After the liposuction, any excess skin is removed as needed, to tighten the remaining skin and create a smoother contour. The muscle is tightened, and the tissue is reattached in a way that leaves no space for fluid to accumulate underneath. Progressive sutures under tension are applied to close the incision and minimize the resulting incision lines.
With this procedure, many patients are able to enjoy a greatly reduced recovery time, returning to their normal activity levels at a more rapid timeline. Do you think you are ready?
